Messerschmitt Bf 109F-2

Description

Hasegawa's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109F-2 is an attractive model with only a few fit problems.

I built my Bf 109F-2 with a replacement cockpit from Aires.

The model is finished in the colours of German ace, Hans "Assi" Hahn. This Bf 109F-2 on the Channel Front wore standard gray camouflage, but the color of the engine cowling is the cause for controversy. Some sources claim that the cowling was painted orange or red, but most modern authorities agree that the color was most likely yellow.

Reference photos also show that this aircraft featured a black-outlined white band around the rear fuselage. This was depicted as two short bars on the decal sheet, so I masked and painted the band instead.

My Bf 109F-2 was sprayed exclusively with the Testor Aztek A470 double-action airbrush, using the tan-colored "Fine" tip.
